From Understanding Poverty to Creating Solutions
SARLIC was born from deep observation of the realities facing rural households in western Uganda. We recognized that poverty drives a vicious cycle β domestic violence, school dropouts, and child malnutrition β all worsened by climate change and environmental degradation.
Sustainable Agricultural Research and Livelihood Innovations Center (SARLIC) is a Ugandan Indigenous Non-Governmental organization that was fully registered in 2024 and operating in the western region.
Our work began with the main focus of understanding the main drivers of household poverty and possible solutions, with emphasis on sustainable use of natural resources, combating the effects of climate change, food security, nutrition and food systems, promoting innovations that solve local challenges, and empowering local communities with knowledge and skills for development.
Today we run practical initiatives including nutrition trainings, youth livelihood and skills development programs, climate change and environmental awareness campaigns, gender-based violence prevention, and Village Savings and Loan Associations (VSLA).
